📍Český Krumlov

Historical town located in a South Bohemia region takes you back to the 13th century. Two hour drive from Prague is well worth the time spent on the way. Unusually large castle sits on top of the hill surrounded by a beautiful rococo garden which offers a spectacular view over the historical town. It is no wonder that Český Krumlov is listed on UNESCO World Heritage Site.

How to get there: Český Krumlov is located 170 km south from Prague. An easy 2 hour drive by car and several direct buses everyday makes it well accessible. It takes less than 3 hours by bus and ticket prices range between 160 – 200 Kč one way.

How much time you need:  Including quite long bus ride from Prague you will surely need a whole day to fully enjoy the beauty of this historical town. 

Entrance fee: The castle can be visited only by a guided tour. The price differs depending on the chosen route and spoken language. Entry fees start from 150 Kč up to 320 Kč per adult.

📍Adršpach-Teplice Rocks

The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks (Adršpašsko-teplické skály in Czech) are unusual sandstone rocks covering area of almost 20 km2. They are situated in a natural reserve in the northeastern part of the Czech Republic. There are thousands of strange rock formations and some of them have even got unique names. In Adršpach you may see isolated towers and stony pillars, as well as great stony walls which will amaze you. Due to the distance from Prague and not very convenient connection this place is not heavily visited by tourists. But if you are looking for unique natural landscapes and want to spend a day in nature, this is a perfect place for you.

How to get there: There is no direct connection from Prague to Adršpach rocks. We recommend to take a bus to Trutnov town first and another local bus from there. It’ll take you probably more than 4 hours to reach the destination which makes it quite inconvenient. However if you have a car don’t hesitate to come here. It’s less than 200 km away from Prague and it’s well worth visiting.

How much time you need: Tourist tracks vary from 5km to 9km long, well marked by touristic marks. The track is quite easy, but you will want to stop many times on the way, so leave at least 3 hours to go through the whole place.  

Entrance fee: Stony town Adršpach is opened from May to the end of October depending on weather conditions. Entrance fee is 70 Kč in summer and only 40 Kč in winter. You can find all you need to know about opening hours here.

📍Karlovy Vary

List of best day trips from Prague can’t be full without visiting Karlovy Vary. Popular spa town laying in the north-western region of Czech Republic. By foreigners it is also called Carlsbad. This place is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Czechia visited by many celebrities from all over the world. Most of the people come here to enjoy different wellness treatments or to visit the famous film festival, which is held every year in July. But if you don’t have that much time you can come just for one day which will be enough to explore the main landmarks and walk through the Colonnades while tasting mineral hot spring water. 

Karlovy Vary

How to get there: Karlovy Vary is located 130 km west from Prague. It is reachable by car in less than 2 hours or you can choose a direct bus which will cost you around 160 Kč one way.  

How much time you need: We recommend to spend at lest couple of days that you can better explore the town, enjoy spa and wellness treatments and try drinking different kinds of mineral hot water spread all around the town. 

Entrance fee: Karlovy Vary can be quite expensive depending on the activities you choose. It usually gets very busy, so if you plan to stay overnight make sure to book your accommodation in advance.

📍Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle

Hluboká Castle is a romantic château situated in South Bohemia region. It is considered as one of the most beautiful castles in the Czech Republic. Mixture of styles from Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods creates unique architecture and unforgettable experience. The interiors are richly decorated with paintings and noble woodcarvings. The castle has been for many years a private property which served as a hunting residence of the Schwarzenberg family. Hluboká Castle is known as one of the most significant Romantic monuments in the European and world context.

How to get there: There are several options to get here, including train, bus and even boat rides. The most convenient is to take a bus from Prague. It takes around 3 hours and stops directly in the town close to the castle. And it costs less than 150 Kč per ride. There is no direct train from Prague. Most likely you will need to go to Česke Budějovice (Budweis) first and catch another transport from there. 

How much time you need: The nearest bus stop is located approximately 800 m from the castle so it takes some time to climb up. The exhibition tour for the castle interiors usually takes around 2 hours and you’ll surely want to spend some more time in the beautiful surrounding gardens. Including the long drive and lunch break in the nearby town, you will need a full day to enjoy this place. 

Entrance fee: Opened daily throughout the year except Mondays. You can visit many different chambers and prices will differ depending on the chosen tour and spoken language, starting from 150 Kč to 270 Kč per adult. 📍Kutna Hora Unesco site

Kutná Hora is a small medieval town listed as UNESCO world heritage site since 1995. You will not find any castles here, but the lovely historical centre will make it up for you, including the spectacular Saint Barbara’s Church, which is one of the most famous Gothic churches in central Europe. Among other, this town wealth was mainly based upon its silver mines. Today you can visit Czech Museum of Silver and medieval silver mine as a reminder of old ages.

How to get there: Kutná Hora is a small town located only 80 km east from Prague. It is easily reachable by car or public transport in about an hour. There are many bus and train connections directly from Prague everyday. The bus ticket price is approximately 70 Kč and train ride slightly over 100 Kč per one ride. However we would recommend to use train anyway. It’s faster and more comfortable way of transport. 

How much time you need: We guess that half a day should be enough to explore the whole town, taking into account the transport from Prague. If you include lunch in one of the traditional restaurants, it can make a whole day escape from busy Prague streets. 

Entrance fee: Saint Barbara’s Church opens daily from 10am – 16pm (17pm) depending on the season. Entry fee is 120 Kč per adult. For more detailed information visit the official website.

Czech Museum of Silver is open for visitors from April to November. Opening hours vary depending on the season and price for an adult is only 70 Kč.

📍Hrádek u Nechanic

Hrádek u Nechanic is a 19th century Gothic style Romantic château located east of Prague in Hradec Králové Region. This unique red colour castle is a representation of how the nobility lived in the19th century. The richly decorated and furnished interiors combined with a natural park is a typical example of an English style château.

How to get there: You can easily reach this place in about an hour by car following the D11 Highway 110 km east of Prague. You can also use bus, but you need to first go to Hradec Kralové and then find local connection to the small town Hrádek. 

How much time you need: We spent nice couple of hours relaxing in the gardens and taking pictures. It’s very peaceful and little visited place. 

Entrance fee: To enter the gardens and admire the unique architecture and style is free of charge. Payed parking is 200 m from the entrance and cost 25 Kč, but you can park a bit further by the side of the road and just walk back. 

The castle is closed over winter and opening hours differ by the season. Entry to the castle is 150 Kč, however tours are held only in Czech language. For different language tours you need to visit the official website and book in advance.

📍Blatná castle

Blatná is a small town in the South Bohemian region of Czech Republic. The castle lays on artificial made lake in the centre of the town surrounded by large forest gardens. History of the castle dates back to the 13th century and today’s look is a mixture of Gothic-Renaissance style. But what brings the tourists here in the first place is a friendly fallow deer herd. If you are lucky you can get very close and even feed them by hand. Don’t forget to bring some carrots!

Blatná Castle

How to get there: The most convenient option is to take a bus from Prague to Strakonice and then another one to Blatná directly. The whole journey takes approximately 2,5 hours and costs around 150 Kč one way. It’s surely worth stopping here if you are on the way to explore South Bohemia region. It’s less than 100 km drive south from Prague. 

How much time you need: We guess that 2 hours should be more than enough, but it quite depends how long you’ll be looking for the deers in the large gardens. 

Entrance fee: During winter months the park is open every day from 6:00 to 18:00 and during summer time it’s extended until 20:00. Single admission ticket costs 25 Kč.

📍Bohemian – Switzerland Nation Park and Bastei Bridge

Bohemian Switzerland in Czech called České Švýcarsko is a national park located in the north-western region of Czech Republic. Here you will find many beautiful trails which take you through typical native forests and extraordinary rock landscapes. Our highlight is the Bastei Bridge which you can access from the German side of the National Park. This picturesque place offers you magical view all over the mountains and it’s even possible to walk on the bridge!

How to get there: Unfortunately there is no direct bus or train from Prague, so the easiest way to come here is by car. It’s located 150 km from Prague, but very comfortable ride on well maintained roads takes around 1,5 hour or only 40 minutes from Dresden. 

How much time you need: You can expect approximately one hour walk from parking to reach the bridge viewpoint. There are more places and hikes to wander around so you’ll surely need several hours to explore the area and take nice pictures. 

Entrance fee: Free. The national park is open all the time and it’s free to enter. All you need to do is pay for parking which is from 3-5,5 € a day.

Bohemian Switzerland National Park

Apart from all the beautiful places in Czech Republic, we also choose the nearest easily reachable cities you can visit from Prague where you can take your sightseeing tour abroad. It’s still possible to make it as a day trip, but we definitely recommend to take at least couple of days for the full cultural and sightseeing experience.

📍Bratislava 

Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. It’s one of the smallest capital cities in Europe, but with a colourful baroque old town and castle siting on top of the hill, it makes a perfect destination for a whole day trip.

How to get there: Bratislava is located around 330 km from Prague. It takes 3-4 hours drive depending on traffic (which is usually very heavy on this road). The most convenient is to take a 4 hour train ride, which is the most comfortable and easiest transport with ticket prices between 400-500 Kč one way. There are also a few direct bus connections during the day, which might be a bit cheaper – 300 Kč one way. Again the travel time depends on traffic and in most cases it will take longer than the train. 

How much time you need: If you catch a train early in the morning you can easily make  the whole trip in one day. To explore main places of interest in Bratislava you will need approximately 3-4 hours.  

📍Vienna

Vienna lies in the north-eastern corner of Austria. The city is situated alongside the river Danube, the second longest European river. After many renovations and war damages the character of Vienna remains the same. The city is renowned for its architecture, strudel, schnitzel, classical music and tasty coffee!

How to get there: It takes 4 hours comfortable train ride with tickets priced 360 Kč and several departures daily. Vienna is 330 km far from Prague (same distance as Bratislava) but the city is much larger than Bratislava so we recommend to stay there for more than one day, especially if you travel by public transport. There are options to book a private tour directly from Prague, in this case you will be able to see most of Vienna in one day. 

How much time you need: We recommend to stay at least 1-2 nights to fully enjoy the beauty of old city centre and try some delicious food.

📍Dresden

Dresden is the capital of the German state of Saxony, known as a city of architecture and art. Mainly a baroque city influenced by renaissance as well as new modern and contemporary arts brings together a unique experience with selections of many museums and galleries, festivals, history and cultural activities.

How to get there: Only 2 hours drive by bus or train with prices around 300 Kč (one way) will take you directly to Dresden city centre which makes it very easy to reach from Prague. Distance of 150 km can be done by car in less that 1,5 hour due to well maintained roads and reasonably light traffic on this route. 

How much time you need: The short distance from Prague makes it possible to enjoy most of the attractions and sightseeing in one day. Anyway we recommend to stay at least one night to explore more and enjoy the calm and pleasant atmosphere of the city.
